Atlantic Beach Elementary | Atlantic Beach, Florida
The existing campus of Atlantic Beach Elementary School consists of five buildings built over a forty year period. The original building, built in 1929, is Art-Deco style. It faces the main street and obstructs the view of the additions, which are unrelated in plan and style. The project includes the design of a new 6,300 s.f. media center, the remodeling of the existing media center into classrooms, and remodeling of the administration area. The interior remodeling for administrative functions in the original building preserves the integrity of the building's design with high ceiling, pendant mounted direct-indirect lighting and glass transoms lining the hallways. The media center recalls the Art-Deco character of the original building with elements, such as brick banding, related massing and colors.
