Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church | Cocoa, Florida
Mount Moriah AME Church is a replacement for the ailing original church which is located one block to the west. The new church sanctuary and fellowship hall are situated adjacent to an existing two story building on the site, which will become the education/administration building. The three buildings are connected via a walkway cover and are designed to form a memorial courtyard space. The 6,000 square foot sanctuary is a traditional cruciform in plan and recalls traditional church elements in form. The sanctuary's form consists of a steeply pitched roof bearing on masonry walls. The walls are punctuated with openings which reuse the stained glass windows from the original church. The north face of the sanctuary incorporates a striking 30 foot tall cross surrounded with stained glass windows from the original church. The 3000 square foot fellowship hall is designed to relate to the sanctuary with steeply pitched roofs and masonry walls.
